Student Learning Learning Environment for International Exchange Students

Program for International Students
at Aichi Prefectural University

With a campus situated outside the big city and in harmony with nature, Aichi Prefectural University offers an enriching learning environment for international exchange students. The exchange program at Aichi Prefectural University has a unique structure that combines Japanese language education with active learning on a broad range of topics. For example, our “Topic Discussion” course challenges exchange students to comparatively analyze Japanese cultural practices alongside those of their respective origins and to share their findings with other students.

Two fully staffed facilities support exchange students’ lives at Aichi Prefectural University - the Student Global Mobility Office and the iCoToBa Multilingual Learning Center.

Student Global Mobility Office

The Student Global Mobility Office, located on the 1st floor of Building E, Student Support Division, Nagakute Campus, is responsible for sending students to partner universities abroad, accepting exchange students, planning and managing various study abroad related events, and providing counseling and information about study abroad. The room is equipped with materials and books related to partner universities and study abroad in general, which can be freely browsed.

iCoToBa Multilingual Learning Center

iCoToBa is an educational space where Japanese and international students meet and collaborate on a wide variety of activities. In addition to courses conducted together with Japanese students from our university, the center hosts a series of parties and other fun events throughout the year. There are also opportunities for casual exchange, such as lunchtime discussions with Japanese students.

Cross-Cultural Space (CroCuS)

The Cross-Cultural Space (CroCuS) is a facility designed to promote exchange between students from diverse cultural backgrounds, including both international students and Japanese students. It serves as an environment where students from the five faculties of Foreign Studies, Japanese Studies, Education and Welfare, Information Science and Technology, and Nursing and Health can experience cultural diversity, as well as a place to disseminate research that links Aichi Prefecture to the rest of the world.

Feature 1: Permanent Facilities for Online Exchange

Large monitors, cameras, microphones, and speakers necessary for online exchange can deployed at any time. Faculty, staff, and students can use the system for their own purposes.

Feature 2: International Exchange Space Open at All Times

To further promote interaction between international and Japanese students outside of the classroom, this exchange space is always open to the public. It is designed with a raised floor (OA floor) and the layout of chairs and desks can be freely changed according to the purpose of use. The facility is designed to accommodate a variety of communication styles, with meeting spaces and partitions to suit the number of people using it.

About the nickname "CroCuS"

The name "CroCuS" is a creative abbreviation of “Cross-Cultural Space,” chosen through a public contest within the university. In Japan, the crocus flower has a symbolic meaning, evoking the joy of youth. The name was chosen in the hope that the space will be used actively as a place for young people to broaden their horizons through cultural exchange.
